Headway Worcestershire is a local, independent charity dedicated to supporting adults impacted by acquired brain injuries throughout Worcestershire. We provide specialised services, information, and support to survivors, their families, and caregivers.

Our vision acknowledges that every brain injury is unique, affecting individuals differently. We strive to recognise each person's distinct needs and tailor our support accordingly.

Our goal is to empower individuals to achieve their aspirations and lead a life that aligns with their desires and interests. We aim to foster a community where those with brain injuries are respected, valued, and able to live fulfilling lives, while also advocating for greater public awareness and a deeper understanding of brain injury's impact.

WHAT IS AN ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY?

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the term used for all injuries to a brain sustained since birth, there are many different causes of brain injury and its effects are complex and wide ranging. These can include stroke, accidents, assaults, tumours, brain haemorrhages, encephalitis and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Living with an abi

The effects of an acquired brain injury can be life-changing impacting on the simplest of daily tasks. Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life: walking, talking, thinking and feeling, and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were.

OUR SUPPORT & CARE

We provide therapies, rehabilitation and reablement, advocacy, carer and family support on a one to one basis in the home or the wider community. Support groups and counselling. Alongside our wellbeing day services, a comfortable social setting, where individuals living with an ABI can meet people, make new friends.

TYPES OF BRAIN INJURY

We are delighted to be partnering with The Lawn Tennis Association and Everton Community Football.

Throughout the day you can take part in either tennis and/or football to get yourself prepared for next years ABI Games™. Come along for some fun and and maybe even make new friends.

Headway Worcestershire is bringing you something different and exciting. A cool fundraising project for you to take on in 2024, and it's called the 90 Challenge!

We're all about keeping it fun and light-hearted, so we've designed a challenge that is open and encourages you to have fun while raising funds. The 90 Challenge runs from January to December, and all you need to do is pick any activity that involves the number 90.

Headway Worcestershire presents the ABI Games™ 2025

The highly anticipated V2 of the ABI Games, a groundbreaking event celebrating adults with acquired brain injuries, was held on 3rd August 2023 with resounding success.

This remarkable event at the University of Worcester Arena and hosted by Headway Worcestershire, showcased the extraordinary talents and abilities of participants from across the UK.
