The local brain injury charity aimed to cycle 3500 minutes for the 350 people with brain injury we help every year. The charity has called for all spinning and cycling enthusiasts to cycle for a person with brain injury in Worcestershire in desperate need of specialised support.
The event was held during Bike Week 2016 (11th – 19th of June) has seen interest from a number of local businesses eager to get involved. The Worcester branch of Nuffield Health hosted the fundraiser amongst its club members between Monday the 13th and Friday the 17th of June, encouraging both their clients and their staff members to clock in minutes for the cause. Jenny McCarthy, Duty Manager at Nuffield Health said “Our members are always keen to take up challenges for charity and we felt this was a great and fun way to do it. We run 9 spin classes per week and they are always packed.”
“We were thrilled to see the support we got from Nuffield and PF2 Health Clubs, as well as from those who got involved! We not only cycled past our target of nearly 60 collective hours, but we also raised over £500 through donations and sponsorships”, said Julia Protesaru, fundraising Manager at Headway.
Paul Jordan PF2 Gym Club Manager, who provided the spin bikes at the Slug and Lettuce for the second half of the week said that they “love getting involved in activities with charities. We often work with people with disabilities and not-for-profits, either for fundraisers or for rehabilitation, and it is always eye opening and inspiring to see how much good work there is out there coming from the charity sector. Headway is a great cause to help.”
“Bike week was another opportunity to promote the good work of Headway as well as our educational project on cycling helmets, “Safeheads”, aimed at children. Brain injuries are a major cause of acquired disability in young people. We want children to know of the importance of appropriate head protection, and how important it is to wear one”, added Julia.
Headway’s next events include face painting at the Worcester Live, a stall at the Viking Fayre in Spetchley Park, the Worcester Carnival and the Running team for the Worcester 10k. If you would like to get involved, get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
