After the announcement on the 8th of March regarding the 2017 Budget: Social care gets £2bn funding boost, Kathryn Davis, CEO of Headway Worcestershire addresses the concern.
Chancellor Philip Hammond said £1bn of the cash will be released in 2017-18 to allow councils to “act now” and commission more social care packages to “relieve pressures on the NHS”. The remaining funding will be provided in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
“Headway Worcestershire are pleased with the announcement by the Chancellor today, of an additional £2b for social care over the next 3 years in England. However, this amount is just a sticking plaster of the requirements of many charities like Headway Worcestershire who are able to help people in the communities who need increasing help and support. What we need to consider over the next few months is what will happen and how this money will be spent. Watch this space. “
