Mel’s Blog 24th September 2014
The annual gathering for our AGM was a chance to meet colleagues and friends old and new as well as service users and their families. After the ‘usual’ business of presenting the accounts and reviewing the year it was a pleasure to present a volunteer of the year and staff member of the year award.
Volunteer of the year was Rafe Bennett. Rafe who first came to Headway as a service user is now one of our most active volunteers. The list of what he does is pretty long and includes helping Pat our cook in the day centre, interviewing for new staff, working at the charity shop and fundraising. Well done Rafe.
Staff member of the year was a tough decision, especially when you consider that all our staff are can – do people who go the extra mile for service users. In the end we decided length of service would be a good criteria, so step forward Laura Hall, our Deputy Director who has done most jobs in Headway and has been with us for 15 years.
Finally, one of our most influential and long serving Trustees, Paul Griffith stood down from the Board. Paul does a lot of voluntary work for charities in Worcester by taking on governance roles. He was Treasurer for Headway for over 15 years, he has steered us from the brink of financial collapse to a healthy charity with a strong balance sheet. Paul was presented with a number of gifts by Mary, our current Chair and warmly thanked for everything he has done for Headway.
